Children’s Health Education & Habits New Mexico – Kohl’s Healthy Kids

About Us

Kohl’s Healthy Kids is dedicated to helping parents, kids, and educators learn more about the issues impacting New Mexico’s youth. We want New Mexico’s youth to be excited and have the knowledge to live a happy and healthy life. In collaboration with the UNM Children’s Hospital we are working to educate the community on how we can help our future live healthy. We offer tips, recipes, doctor profiles, and more! Together we can raise the healthiest generation yet in New Mexico.

Our Mission

At Kohl’s Healthy Kids NM we want New Mexico’s children to be the healthiest they can be. Our mission is to put a spotlight on the issues impacting today’s youth and provide options to overcome them. We provide the best resources and ideas to give parents and caregivers ideas on how to get kids active and live an all-around healthy lifestyle!

In 2011, the obesity rate for 10-17 year olds in New Mexico was over 14 percent. By encouraging kids to get off the couch and put down the controller we can start to lower that rate. Whether it’s going outside for 30 minutes to be active or going for a family bike ride, getting daily exercise can make a world of difference. Exercise isn’t the only factor in creating a more healthy lifestyle, why not implement more healthy habits!

Fun & Easy Recipes

Eating healthy is more fun for kids if they help make the meal or after-school snack! Make healthy eating fun, by incorporating more kid friendly recipes into your routine and get them to help you! How about some celery, peanut butter, and raisins to make ants on a log instead of the giant chocolate chip cookie they usually eat when they get home?

3 Easy Steps to a Healthier Life

Move More

More activity can make a huge different in a child’s life. Today, many kids spend too much time in front of the television and not enough time enjoying the outdoors and being active. Small things like walking the dog and making physical activity a routine in your families day can make a difference.

Eat Smart

Healthy eating is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle. We know it can be hard to put down the cookie, but maybe you can opt for an apple instead. Getting kids involved in making healthy can help them learn to enjoy it! Teaching New Mexico’s youth the importance of eating healthy can have a lasting effect on their lives.

Balance Activities & Food

Energy and calories are the same thing. Your body takes in energy when you eat and expends energy when you are physically active. Finding the balance between what you intake and what you expend is important, just like what you are eating. A healthy lifestyle is more than just eating right and exercising, it’s a combination of both.
